Avi approaches real estate development and property management with an entrepreneurial mindset. Whether it is designing buildings or responding to tenants, he is always searching for a better way to do things. With a proven track record as a successful business owner and entrepreneur, Avi has an extensive background in real estate acquisition, construction management, structural engineering, property management, and investment fund management.

Avi manages all of our properties, conducts due diligence on prospective acquisitions and loans, and oversees the design and construction phases of our new projects. Before moving to Portland, Avi spent 16 years building Quality Bay Construction (QBC) into the California Bay Area's premier seismic retrofit contractor. Avi and his QBC partners eventually focused on the real estate acquisition, forming Pacific Bay Investments to manage the buildings they were buying and renovating.

 

ERIC CRESS
Principal

   

 

 

An engineer and designer by training, Eric is drawn to innovative new ideas that make our communities better places to live. At UD+P, Eric concentrates on acquisition, development, finance, and property management. He oversees budgets and the acquisition-to-construction phase of new projects, and he initiates loans for our private real estate funds.

Before UD+P, Eric was a project manager at Pacific Bay Investments in Berkeley, California. Prior to that, Eric managed engineering projects for Cypress Semiconductor, Maple Optical Systems, Leapfrog Toys, and the National Science Foundation. Eric holds eight patents and has published several papers related to this work. He earned an MBA with a focus in real estate finance from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, as well as BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University. Eric currently serves as a Vice President of the Central Eastside Industrial Council and Urban Product Council Chair of the Portland Chapter of the Urban Land Institute.

 

MARK VUONG
Project Manager, Client Relationship Manager

     

Project management at UD+P is a team endeavor. Along with Avi Ben-Zaken and Joren Bass, Mark manages projects from early conception and design through construction and completion—working closely with general contractors, subcontractors, bankers, lenders, engineers, and architects. As client relationship manager, Mark provides multifaceted assistance to our investors. Mark also manages our finances (including banking and taxes), assists with acquisitions and portfolio management, conducts due diligence, and ensures legal/regulatory compliance. 

Mark began working in the financial industry in 1998, and he has been with UD+P from the start. He earned an MBA with a concentration in New Venture and Acquisition Management from the University of North Alabama in 2007, and a BA in Economics and Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1997. 

 

ANTHONY STOHL
Asset Manager

Anthony joined us in 2012 with more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry. He is primarily responsible for property acquisitions, sales, and financial reporting. Anthony's background includes five years at EGM Capital in San Francisco working as a Financial Analyst and Portfolio Manager of a $600MM hedge fund. Most recently, Anthony spent 10 years managing family investment funds. Anthony earned a BS degree from Oregon State University in 1990 and an MBA from the Haas School of Business in Berkeley, California in 1999. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1999.  

 

 

 

SARA MOORE
Asset Management Bookkeeper

Sara is the full charge bookkeeper for UD+P properties. She handles financial reporting, tenant ledgers, security deposits, rents, bank reconciliations, payables and receivables, debt service payments, and utility bill-backs to commercial tenants. Sara also helps to prepare budgets and analyze performance. A native of Milwaukie, Oregon, Sara earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at Oregon State University. She then worked in senior housing and property management before settling on bookkeeping as her primary career path. Sara joined UD+P in early 2013 with 11 years of experience in bookkeeping, property management, and human resources.

 

 

TINA MCNERTHNEY
Investment Communications Manager

Tina works with UD+P investors through every step of the investment process – ensuring that our members are informed about the latest fund and project activities and responding to inquiries from members and prospective investors. Tina holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University. She also has a paralegal certification and LEED AP accreditation. 

Originally from Massachusetts, Tina has been in Portland since 2000. Before joining UD+P, she was a planner and consultant in the urban development field for ten years, and recently worked as a paralegal. Tina is excited to bring her unique professional background and experience to UD+P to help keep investors engaged and up-to-date. An animal lover and fitness enthusiast, Tina enjoys hiking with her dog, biking and rock climbing.

JOREN BASS
Project Manager

A "boots on the ground architect," Joren is every bit as comfortable and capable with a pencil or computer as with a framing hammer in hand. Adept at managing every phase of the building process, Joren collaborates with Avi Ben-Zaken and Mark Vuong to manage UD+P projects from early conception and design through construction and completion.

Bringing more than 15 years of diverse design and construction experience with numerous projects in the Portland area, as well as nationally and internationally, Joren holds a BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Kansas, a Master of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis and is a licensed architect. His broad experience, creativity and passion for the built environment makes him the perfect fit to help UD+P participate in shaping Portland’s innovative, sustainable and growing community.
