We manage this historic 1924 building at 37th & Division, which was elegantly remodeled in 2006 using the latest in green building materials and finishes. The Richmond is an excellent example of designing with environmental quality, conservation, and simple beauty as the guiding principles.
One of The Richmond’s retail spaces is occupied by The Victory Bar, which has received national and local press for its excellent beer, classic cocktails, and rare whiskey and scotch—as well as its tasty cuisine. The other space is occupied by the Star Salon, a neighborhood fixture and local favorite for a friendly and affordable haircut.
Above the ground floor retail, The Richmond features five attractive and efficient studio apartments. In addition to energy-efficient appliances (all of which meet or exceed Energy Star standards), these upscale units have user-controlled thermostats, energy-efficient light bulbs, low-emissive argon filled windows, low-flow toilets, sink and shower head aerators, and tankless water heaters—all contributing to a truly "green" lifestyle and real energy savings for our residents. The main living spaces have beautiful fir flooring certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, while renewable-cork flooring gives the kitchen spaces a clean, natural aesthetic. The Richmond also features formaldehyde-free cabinetry, low-VOC paint, and natural Marmoleum flooring in the bathrooms.
UDP completed the remaining renovations on The Richmond and added secured bicycle lockups inside. Through conscientious management and maintenance, we are preserving a historic building for the future: The Richmond will not need to be raised and rebuilt in the next generation. The Richmond serves the neighborhood and the tenants who live in it, improving their experience of living, working, and studying in Southeast Portland.
