UDP is especially interested in this kind of property: we take pride in our ability to find an underutilized old structure, improve it, and ultimately contribute a useful and artfully restored building to the community. The Ambassador Apartments are located near Oakland’s Lake Merritt. As with the Grand Apartments, the Ambassador Apartments were purchased from a lender after there had been a default on the property loan. This building also needed expensive seismic retrofitting improvements to make it habitable. The building was purchased in 1997, retrofitted, and the exterior was restored to its original attractive state.
