SE Grand & Stark
When the owner of Shleifer Furniture was planning to retire, he approached UD+P about the sale of two properties in the Central Eastside. One property, located at 509 SE Grand, was home to Shleifer Furniture’s retail store for 80 years until its closure in 2016. The other, located four blocks away, is known as Coffee Warehouse and most recently served as a warehouse for Shleifer’s Furniture. UD+P is again teaming up with Beam Development to take on this adaptive reuse project.
Built in 1906, the Shleifer building was once the Chamberlain Hotel. While the hotel rooms on the building’s upper floors were shuttered in the 1970s, they remain intact. In partnership with Beam, UD+P will take on a full renovation of the building, restoring the historic character of the exterior, modernizing systems, and preparing the upper floors to be used again as a hotel.
Built in 1936, Coffee Warehouse most recently served as Shleifer Furniture's warehouse. The current plan is to upgrade the building in order to lease the building to an industrial end-user. Together, Beam and UD+P will team on this redevelopment project.
